US consumers will definitely pay the price of tariffs

The unleashed and temporarily, almost capriciously paused tariffs have made the governments around the globe feel headache when they have to figure out how to minimize the disruptions to their economies. To be honest, ironically, the real victim of tariffs could be US consumers which will pay the price of tariffs.

Temu, Chinese e-retailer known for offering low price items, hiked prices, citing “import charges”. Those fees can cost more than the items themselves and eventually double the price of a typical order.

On the flip side, something what is worse than price increases is daily necessities are unavailable for purchase. Some U.S. stores could see empty shelves in a few weeks as the impact of tariffs on China begins filtering into the economy.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent pointed out that China exports is far more to the U.S. than it imports from the country. But the implication of trade war is that the U.S. consumer has more to lose when China’s exports slow to a trickle. Maybe that is the negative spillover effect of the tariffs---US consumers are paying the price of tariffs.
